The Phalene
The Phalene is a progenitor of the Papillon. The Phalene came to be known at the French Court of Louis XIV in the 17th century. The Phalene is also known as the Drop Eared Papillon, the Dwarf Spaniel, the Continental Spaniel and the Espagneul Nain. The Phalene should measure 8-11 inches with a miniature spaniel appearance. They are of a happy disposition and generally get along with other pets and loves to be around people.
About Us
The Irish Kennel Club in accordance with the FCI, recognised the Phalene as a separate breed to the Papillon in 2006.
During 2006, a group of Phalene enthusiasts got together to form the Phalene Club of Ireland. After much hard work, the club was granted provisional affiliation with the Irish Kennel Club in September 2007.
The Chairperson of the club is Mrs. Marian Sloan, the Secretary is Ms. Eilish Neally, and the Treasurer is Mr. Donal Neally.
Aims For The Club
• Educate exhibitors and the public about the Phalene, by running a seminar.
• Encourage exhibitors to shown their Phalenes.
• Encourage the safe keeping and breeding of Phalenes.
• To become a successful club that will eventually host a championship event.
