NO UMBRELLA NEEDED FOR ‘RIHANNA’ AS THE PRIZES RAIN DOWN !
New Years Day at the National Show Centre in Dublin brought the new date for the Minority Breeds Charity Open Show which had moved from the usual date in December. An entry of 364 exhibits awaited the judges for this somewhat festive day out in aid of the Cancer Research unit of Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin, a hospital which has a special place in the hearts of most Dubliners such is the magnificent work carried out in the southside hospital. The dog showing fraternity showed their support for this great cause in many ways at the event.
Vincent O’Brien of the Vincenza Dobermann’s and Standard Schnauzers was the judge for the main classes and competitions of the day and from the group winners on the day he chose Aaron Brown’s Shih Tzu puppy Belliver Golden Popcorn who had earlier won Group 9 under Eilish Neally of the Carrigteen Papillons and ‘Rihanna’ was also declared Best Puppy in Show in Show having won the Puppy Bitch Stakes earlier under Jeff Delmar of the Shillelagh Terriers. Aaron has had numerous successes down the years with the breed and has recently returned to the breed ring after a break.
Vincent also judged the Champion Stakes where it was another win for the Ashmair Bichon Frise Kennel of Ashling Connolly when her CH Ashmair She’s Got the Look took the top spot from an entry of 57. Ashling had also won the last Champion Stakes in 2007 when her CH/INT CH Ashmair Secret Wish won the equivalent class at the Dublin Dog Show Society Championship show just after Christmas.
Eilish Neally judged the Junior Handling classes as well as a number of breed/group and variety classes and her overall winner was Nadine Bermingham who handled her German Spitz Klein CH Windfall Loving Spoonful at Macpaws in the classes. |
