The Sixmile Leisure Centre in Ballyclare was the venue for the Northern Ireland Gundog of the Year competition hosted by the NI Gundog Field & Show Society.
Judge for the event was David Shields of the Wilholme Cocker Spaniels who had flown in for the weekend with his wife Irene.
From the final 4 David chose Stuart Cummings' English Setter dog Moorbrook Washington of Sevenhills JunCh for the title of NI Gundog of the Year 2009. The runner up was Diane Stewart-Ritchie and Cathy Neill's Irish Setter bitch Gwendariff Rock Diva JW handled by Diane. The other 2 finalists were Gillian Sterritt's Irish Setter bitch Riversett Best Kept Secret and Kerry Brennan's Cocker Spaniel Asquanne Ginnifer at Kerrijoy.
Winner of the Puppy event was Wendy Fleming's Pointer dog Hookwood Dark Raven in Glenariff. Runner up was Tony Rainey and Rachel Shaw-Rainey's young Weimaraner Greyspirit Royal Scot at Trilite.
The other finalists in Puppy of the Year were Cheryl Donaldson's German Shorthaired Pointer Northern Belle and Cathy Loughlin's Irish Setter Rohanmor One Step Beyond.
